Failed to re-contract even with ERA 2.47… Leaving Korea and returning to ML, waiting for release in 1G → demoted to minors

Last year, left-handed pitcher Sean Nolin (34), who spent a year in Korea with the KIA Tigers, was demoted to the minor leagues after one game back in the major leagues.

The Miami 메이저놀이터Marlins transferred Nolin, who was on standby for release (DFA), to Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on the 28th (hereinafter Korean time). After the DFA on the 26th, when the team I wanted did not come out during the waiver period, I changed my affiliation to Triple A.

Nolin received a big league call-up ahead of the Atlanta Braves game on the 25th. On this day, he took the mound as the third pitcher in the sixth inning when the team trailed 0-5, but was hit with 7 hits (2 homers), 2 walks, 2 strikeouts and 6 runs in 3 innings. Miami also lost 0-11.

As soon as he got on the mound in the 6th inning, Nolin, who was declared an automatic ball for a pitch clock violation, started off with a solo home run off Sam Hilliard in the first pitch. He gave up two runs to Austin Riley and allowed 3 runs from the first inning.

He pitched the seventh inning without allowing a run, but gave up three runs in the eighth on three hits and a walk. He was hit with a 3 RBI triple, sweeping Aji Albis with 2 out and bases loaded. With an average four-seam fastball of 90.2 miles (145.2 km), he could not escape the bats of big league hitters.

In the end, Nolin, who was excluded from the 40-man roster after receiving a DFA notice within a day, changed his status to a minor leaguer again as the team he wanted did not come out. He is expected to spend time in the minor leagues for the time being as he failed to capitalize on his first call-up opportunity.

Nolin spent a year in Korea last year and is familiar to domestic fans. As a member of the KIA, he recorded 8 wins, 8 losses, an average ERA of 2.47 and 108 strikeouts in 21 games (124 innings). He was substituted after being hit with his left elbow by a batted ball in his debut match in April, and in late May, he had a two-month hiatus due to a calf muscle tear during training. If it had not been for Ronnie Williams, who was released in June after a slump, Nolin could have been released in the middle.

After recovering his health, he worked hard in the second half. In 13 games, he went 6-3 with an ERA of 1.90, helping KIA advance to the final 5. In the second half, he struggled to rank second in the league in average ERA, but in the first game of the wild card match against KT, he was disappointed with the starting loss with 3 hits, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts and 3 runs in 2⅔ innings.

The renewal of the contract failed due to the risk of injury and the circumstances of the left-handed KIA selection team. Nolin, who had not been called up by any other team in Korea, signed a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins in February. Two months after that, he was traded to Miami on the 10th.
