Jose Altuve (Houston Astros) has homered in three straight at-bats. And he did it in the third inning.
Altuve batted first and second in the lineup against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, USA, going 3-for-5 with three home runs, three RBIs, three runs scored and one strikeout in the Astros’ 14-1 win.
Altuve homered in his first at-bat. In 3B1S, he hit a 94.9 mph (approx. 152 km/h) five-pitch fastball from Nathan Eovaldi over the left-center field fence. It traveled 123 meters at 108.3 mph (174 km/h).

After Martin Maldonado hit a two-run homer in the top of the third to make it 6-0, Altuve stepped to the plate for the third time. Altuve took a two-pitch 90.9 mph (about 146 km/h) cutter from reliever Dane Dunning over the center field fence. It was his third home run in as many at-bats.

Altuve made history in his next two at-bats. He went for four home runs in one game, a feat that has never been accomplished by a second baseman in history, but was denied by a grounder and a strikeout.
However, Altuve became only the fourth player in history to hit three home runs in three innings. He joins Carl Reynolds in 1930, Mike Cameron in 2002 and Manny Machado in 2016.
According to MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, “Altuve had his second career three-homer game in Game 1 of the 2017 American League Division Series against the Boston Red Sox. Houston went on to win the championship.”

“He is only the fourth player in Houston history to hit multiple home runs in two consecutive games.” Altuve hit two homers against Texas on May 5, and three on the night. He became the first player to do so since Richard Hidalgo in the 2000 season.
Altuve represented Venezuela in the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) prior to this season. However, he suffered a finger injury in the quarterfinals against the United States when he was hit in the hand by a Daniel Bard dune ball. Since returning to action on May 20 against the Oakland Athletics, he has hit .321 with 15 home runs, 39 RBIs, 63 runs scored, 13 doubles and a .969 OPS in 86 at-bats.
