A veteran of 72 A-match appearances
Expected to face the likes of Ronaldo and Benzema
Veteran South Korean midfielder Chung Woo-young 메이저놀이터 (34) has joined the Saudi Arabian league.

Saudi league side Khaleej FC announced on its website and social networking services (SNS) on the 20th that it had signed Jung Woo-young.

With 72 caps (3 goals), Jung is an experienced resource who helped South Korea reach the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar last year. He played for Kyoto Sanga, Jubilo Iwata and Vissel Kobe in the Japanese J-League and the Chinese Super League before joining Al Sadd (Qatar) in 2018.

Khaleej was founded in 1945 and has a 78-year history. They are ranked 14th out of 16 clubs in the 2022-2023 season.

As a newcomer to Saudi Arabia, Jung will inevitably face some tough competition from star players.

In recent years, the Saudi league has attracted a number of international stars from Europe’s big leagues.

World football star Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nasr in January this year, followed by last year’s Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante at Al Ittihad.

Kalidou Koulibaly, Leo Varane Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Al-Hilal) and Roberto Firmino (Al Ahli) have also made their way to Saudi Arabia.
