Doosan Bears pitcher Won-jun Choi, who was cruising with a no-hitter, was abruptly replaced due to a blister injury.
메이저놀이터Choi started the game against the KIA Tigers of the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League at Jamsil Stadium on Sunday and pitched five innings of four-hit, no-hit ball.
After retiring the side in order in the first and second innings, Choi gave up the Tigers’ first hit in the top of the third. However, he bounced back with an RBI single.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Choi gave up a single to Na Sung-beom but got Choi Hyung-woo to fly out to right field. In the bottom of the fifth inning, he gave up back-to-back singles to Oh Sun-woo and Kim Tae-gun, but got Choi Won-jun to fly out to right field.
However, when Choi took the mound to pitch the sixth inning, he was unable to continue. A trainer visited the mound to check his condition, and the Doosan pitcher was eventually replaced by Kim Myung-shin. Choi only threw 59 pitches that day.
“He was replaced due to a blister on his right middle finger,” a Doosan official said.
Choi finished his outing with a 2-0 lead, giving him three wins and nine losses for the season.
