Russia Figure Skating Beijing gold stripped… WADA files an appeal

Reporter Park Sang-hyun = The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), saying that Russia should have its gold medal in the figure skating team event taken away from last year’s Beijing Winter Olympics. It also requested a four-year suspension of Camila Valieva, who is accused of doping.

Sports media Inside the Games reported on the 22nd (Korean time) that WADA had appealed to CAS against the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).

The appeal includes the stripping of her gold medal in the team event in figure skating at the Beijing Winter Olympics, which Russian athletes, including Balieva, have won, as well as a four-year suspension of Valieva from her competition. 토토사이트

If CAS sided with WADA, Valieva would be barred from competing for four years and her gold medal in the team figure skating event would go to the United States. Japan, who won the bronze medal, becomes the silver medalist and Canada, who placed fourth, takes the bronze medal.

Earlier, RUSADA accepted Valieva’s claim that her grandfather’s heart medication was the result of being mixed in and ruled that she was not charged with doping. However, WADA decided to appeal to CAS, arguing that RUSADA’s ruling violated the World Anti-Doping Code.

In addition, WADA sought a four-year ineligibility and disqualification for the results of those players starting on December 25, 2021, the date of her Balieva’s sample collection. If her appeal is upheld, she will also be stripped of Russia’s gold medal in the figure skating team event.

Regarding this, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said, “We welcome the decision of WADA to appeal the case to CAS. Athletes are eagerly awaiting CAS’s decision.” However, we hope that the case will be dealt with as soon as possible as it will affect the results of team and individual competitions at the Beijing Winter Olympics.”
