[SPORTIME] No problems with 157km batting practice…’Heavens helped’ Ryu Hyun-jin ready to pitch on 14th

He was hit by a 157 kilometres per hour fastball. Ryu Hyun-jin, 36, 메이저놀이터 of the Toronto Blue Jays, is ready for his next start.

Ryu started the 2023 Major League Baseball game against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, on 8 August.

Early in the game, Ryu put on an impressive performance. He pitched a perfect game until the end of the third inning, shutting down the Cleveland bats. It looked like the Korean Monster was back, but that all changed in the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Ryu was hit in the right knee by a 97.7 mph (157.2 km/h) fastball from Oscar Gonzalez. Ryu showed great determination and threw the ball to first base to end the inning, but immediately collapsed to the ground in pain.

Ryu was later helped off the field by Toronto manager John Schneider. The final score was a clean four innings of one-hit ball with no walks and two strikeouts, but there were many concerns about the pitcher’s physical condition.

The good news is that there is nothing wrong with Ryu’s body. Speaking to reporters on the 9th, Schneider said, “The X-ray was negative, and he felt much better today. He should be able to make his next start,” Schneider said, indicating that the injury is minor.

Toronto is utilising a six-man starting rotation for the 17-game series against the Rays. If all goes according to plan, Ryu will take the mound against the Chicago Cubs at 2:37 p.m. on the 14th.

Ryu had a promising outing in Cleveland in his second start, but will he be able to pick up his first win of the season against the Cubs?
